For Children & Teens
Youth Culinary Education
Hands-on culinary education that gives children and teens the skills, understanding, and confidence to cook for themselves.
Students learn by doing. They prepare real food, practice foundational techniques, and build the judgment to work more independently in the kitchen.
The Program
Learning to cook changes what a young person believes they can do.
Youth Culinary Education is the foundation of DC Culinary Club. Students learn to prepare real food with real technique through sessions built around participation rather than observation.
They hold the knife, control the heat, taste as they go, and finish with food they prepared themselves. Instruction develops progressively, helping each student move from basic safety and technique toward greater independence in the kitchen.
Sessions are taught personally by Chef Rémy Carton and shaped around the student's age, experience, ability, and interests.

The Foundation
What students learn.
Each session builds practical ability while helping students understand what is happening, why it works, and how to make decisions for themselves.
Knife & Station Work
Grip, board setup, core cuts, kitchen organization, and the habits that keep a workstation safe and controlled.
Heat & Technique
Searing, roasting, braising, emulsions, doughs, and the reasons different methods produce different results.
Seasoning & Tasting
Salt, acid, fat, aroma, texture, and heat. Students learn to taste, adjust, and improve a dish without waiting to be told what to do.
Building a Complete Meal
Planning, timing, preparation, plating, and cleaning down properly. The goal is the ability to complete a meal with increasing independence.
Built to Last
More than a cooking class.
The goal is not simply to complete a recipe. It is to help each student understand the process well enough to carry the skill forward.
“We do not simply teach students what to make. We teach them how food works.”
Students Do the Work
Students measure, prepare, cook, taste, adjust, and clean down. Chef Rémy teaches and guides, but the student remains responsible for the outcome.
Skills Build Progressively
Sessions are designed as a progression rather than a collection of unrelated activities. Early foundations support more advanced techniques and greater independence over time.
Every Program Is Personal
Instruction is adapted to the student's age, experience, confidence, interests, and goals. Programs are kept private or small so the teaching remains attentive and meaningful.
The Process
How it works.
Every program begins with understanding the student, then builds from there.
Private, thoughtful, and built around the individual.
- Step 01
Conversation
We begin with the student's age, experience, interests, and what you want them to gain from the program.
- Step 02
Program Design
Chef Rémy creates a focused session or progressive series built around clear skills, appropriate challenge, and meaningful outcomes.
- Step 03
Cook
Sessions follow a consistent cadence. Each one ends with completed food, practiced technique, and something the student can carry into the next session.
